  • ( ) Rent An Apartment? Consider Renter's Insurance

Residents displaced by fire have some options when it comes to renter's insurance, according to NewsCenter 5's Susan Wornick.

Many people don't think about homeowner's insurance when they are renting because they assume the property coverage will protect them. It won't. Sometimes, people are concerned that it is expensive. It isn't. Homeowner's insurance is something every renter should consider.

First of all, renter's insurance is considerably less expensive than property owner's insurance. For example, you can get $20,000 of coverage for an annual premium of about $175. . More>>

  • ( ) Aspen Insurance Predicts Strong Growth in Insurance Demand Among Residential and Nursing Care Homes

Aspen Insurance UK, a subsidiary of Aspen Insurance Holdings Limited (NYSE:AHL), has issued a detailed report on the state of Nursing and Residential Care Homes in the UK.

Aspen believes that demand for insurance cover among Nursing and Residential Care Homes is set for strong and rapid growth as the sector expands and responds to ongoing reforms and structural changes. Key developments that are set to drive the increase in demand include the likely transfer of much of the care services for older people currently provided by the NHS to Local Authorities and private providers.

  • ( ) Senators Propose Plan to Extend Health Insurance to Youth

Senate Democrats Thursday propsed a plan to extend health insurance coverage for young adults.

The Health Care Accessibility for Young Americans Act (S.1010) will require insurance companies to extend families' health insurance policies for young adults and military veterans, lawmakers say.

Currently, young adults are eligible to remain on their families' policies only if they are full-time students in college. They are dropped from policies if they are no longer in school or enter the workforce.

According to the bill's primary sponsor, state Senator Joel Lourie (D-Columbia) says the bill aims to extend the period of time young adults are covered by their parent's health insurance policies.

"Regardless if you're a full-time student, a part-time student, or in the workforce, you should not be penalized for making decisions that are best for you," said Lourie. More>>
