    Here in Vermont, we are about to launch a program called Catamount Health, a program designed to provide coverage to the roughly 10 percent of working Vermonters who cannot afford health insurance. The state will subsidize the cost of the policy on a sliding scale for those making 300 percent of the federal poverty level - currently $62,000 for a family of four.

    It's not a perfect solution to the problem of the uninsured in Vermont, but it is a good start toward the goal of universal health coverage. But that is something that the Bush Administration does not want to see. More>>

  • ( ) Prudential life insurance clients may divert premiums into funds

    HCM CITY � Holders of Prudential Viet Nam life insurance policies will be able to participate in the insurance giant�s five investment funds, general director Binayak Dutta said yesterday.

    Prudential�s Viet Nam affiliate has won approval from the Ministry of Finance to combine its life insurance products with participation in investment funds.

    Under the terms of a life insurance contract, customers may choose to allocate some of their premiums for investing in one of the funds, which vary in returns and risk levels.

    The PRUlink Viet Nam Bonds Fund will focuse on investments in the bond market. The PRUlink Stable Fund (Ben vung) will invest 70 per cent in bonds and 30 per cent in equities, while the PRUlink Balanced Fund (Can bang) will choose a higher-risk, higher return mix of 50-per-cent equities, 50-per-cent bonds.     Carpets in all public areas will be ripped out and replaced with tiles.

    The plans were unveiled as Health Secretary Alan Johnson announced the Government was to invest millions of pounds in infection control in the NHS.

    David Fillingham, chief executive of the Bolton Hospitals NHS Trust, said: "We are delighted the Department of Health is putting yet more impetus on reducing infection rates. We have already made great strides in Bolton, particularly in reducing C-difficile.
